The instructor was thorough, providing adequate information in a wide variety of topics relating to starting a business. The additional documents and web links were helpful and interesting.

What suggestions do you have?

Perhaps have a "Files" link on the home page where all the pdf and doc files from the course are linked (either alphabetically or in lesson order), so that these could be accessible during the course - without going through the entire lesson to find where to download it again. If the lesson were also converted to a pdf file that could be easily downloaded for future reference (similar to having a textbook to refer back to later). In addition, a searchable interface for finding key terms within a lesson when I'm looking back for something specific.

1. Far too many typos and misspelled words in the lessons and other materials -- have a good editor go through everything and clean it up for a more professional look. 2. What did you like about the course?

The subject itself was at first intimidating to me, but this course made it non-threatening, fun, and easier to understand than I thought: pleasing visual presentation of the text with larger font, color pictures and illustrations, easyily understandable text, the instructor's approachable and fun personality apparent through his communications, and the amazing amount of resources available through the links and blog. I learned a lot, actually had a good time and regret that the class is over!!!

One of the reasons I took an online class is because I don't work well with anxieties of being put on the spot and other such things. The 20 minute time limit on the final exam basically panicked me. I feel very uneasy about it and feel I could have done better without the pressure.

What did you like about the course?

none I can think of. The test was not mentioned and I have had no access to the internet in several days. I just happened to check back to find out about a certificate. I was not aware of a test. I was stressed out about the possibility due to the internet problems I have been having. Which are not fully resolved as yet. I would have missed the test entirely if I had not been curious.

What suggestions do you have?

Spell out the facts. List the fact that there will be a final exam so people can plan for it. Also I still think I could have gotten as much from a book..

I still can not set up a business in my home. We are not zoned for it. It is zoned only for residental or medical professionals. I can only open a business because I can reactivate my LP Nurse license and take extra mandatory courses at much additional expense. And then get a special permit and pay for that. Also I need to get a home inspection done by the fire department at additional cost. That is not mentioned anywhere in your material.

The only reason I even knew that I should check with my town zoning department is because another woman had so much difficulty getting her home business started. She opened up a psychic business on a main road with business across the street and down a few homes. And they were in homes just like hers. Well the town stopped her in her tracks.. She had to rent accross the street for 5 years until she complied with many requestes of the town. She had to buy a right of way from a neighbor to get access from a side street and then provide parking in the back of her home. She was not allow to have any clients park in front of her home on a large circular drive with parking area. It was a lesson for me.

What did you like about the course?

None for me, I found out that I need to renew my nursing license as a LPN to get a special permit to do Reiki at my home. We are zoned residential and medical professional. I do not feel the added expense for the license and the additional medical classes are something I wish to do to be able to get my home business going.

What suggestions do you have?

Tell people to check with town zoning office prior to starting a business. So they won't get there hopes up and then have additional expense. If I didn't have access to a medical license I would not have been able to have a business here. I was able only because I can reactivate my license at much additional expense. But others may not be able to qualify for a home business at their place of residence at all. How many can qualify for the designation when towns have such strict rules. That should be number one when planning a home business to check the zoning for their home.

The flexibily (with respect to the times when I can do the lessons and assignments) is a strong plus.

What suggestions do you have?

In one of the first lessons an excellent tool was recommended for "Mind Mapping" from: http://www.visual-mind.com/ While it was an excellent tool, there was no way to quickly extend its use after 30 days and continue the assignments. They wanted ~ $200 for an activation fee on the "pro" version they offered for trial. TOO MUCH!

Instead, please recommend something like E Draw or Flow Diagram from Edrawsoft.com that is trialware too but only $49 or $39. Thank you.

The end of the course did not apply to me as I already know what business I want to getb into--I thought coursede would have covered more on marketing etc. The stuff on telecommutting, franchising and hiring interns was not relevant to me. I was a little disappointed. I didn't feel like there was enough time to really get into everything. Not enough time to check out links, do the coursework, and really take your time to work through things thoroughly. I was disappointed that the only online exam was at the very end. All the other assignment sheets we did never had to be submitted, nor were they checked that we were putting down correct information. All in all, I was pretty disappointed.... I was mislead into thinking that if I just devoted 1/2 hour to 1 hour a day to the classes that would be enough to get through it. You really need to have several hours every day to be able to focus on 1 class.

Mu main beef is that on the first day the class was supposed to be released, I got a babysitter and set aside three hours to work on the courese, and the lesson (shich was supposed to be released at 11 am) wasn't released until ~ 4 pm. The instructors response was "Sorry, I hit the wrong button." Doesn't build much confidence in the instructors expertise.

One of the main strong points of the course were the lesson content. For example; lessons 9(Keeping the IRS Happy) and Lesson 2 (Conducting Market Research), were very helpful, they touched on areas of those subjects that I had not yet considered or may not had thought about. I don't think that I would be at this point if I had just read books, although I think that a classroom setting might have challenged me more. But I did like the freedom the internet course gave me. The strong points were the information provided that I could print out and teach myself. Also the interaction with other students. Thier comments kept me interested.

I wish my instructor would have interacted with anything I had to say. The only interaction I received was that he could not answer everyone and I needed to keep on topic. I did respond to overall questions he asked to the entire class and then just gave up after awhile. I stated I may have computer problems and then found out I was getting through, just not worthy of a response. I decided to just hang in there and print out the info I needed and read what everyone else had to say. Then I gave up.On this course. But I am not going to give up on my dreams of owning my own bussiness, not that easily, that is for sure. Sometimes you just have to sit back and listen and learn even when frustrated.

The information presented was helpful, although I found the pace too fast.

What suggestions do you have?

To get the most out of the class, in my opinion, the student had to pretty much know the type of business he/she was going into from the very beginning. Because I was one of those who had no idea what type of business I wished to pursue, I needed more time with the initial exercises that were intended to help students figure out the business that would suit them. I think students should have been given a week to complete the exercises with Lesson 2 before moving on to a new lesson. It sounds like others in the class got hung up around that point too.

The discussion board is a great idea, although it seemed that the instructor didn't always directly answer the questions from students. Sometimes the replies to specific questions appeared to be "canned" (general) responses.

I'd like to read case studies involving individuals who took the class and successfully started their own businesses. What did they take from the class and how did they apply what they learned in real life?

I loved the convenience. I would not say it is superior to face to face classes, it is just different. For me I loved being able to log in at 2:00 am if I wanted to orwhenever I had the time. It really was great for meeting my needs and at this time was a more superior way to take a class. Going to a class, paying a babysitter etc. etc. The information and resources were superb.
