The class presented a wealth of information in very usable format. The two-part "niche website" article was very helpful. Also, I thought the mind-mapping information was very helpful. Overall, this was a very valuable experience and well worth the registration cost!

I think more interaction on the discussion board would help offset the pattern of students accessing the lessons at different times with a resulting loss of the dynamic of face-to-face classes. This improvement will naturally come when and as your registration numbers increase.

Respect for the amount of work necessary to reasearch out and create a web based business. I appreciate the amount of organized information and dirrection to helpful sites.

What suggestions do you have?

Class discussion went well when students asked a direct question and you answered it. It would have enriched my experience to have us do some critical thinking: to analyze what we had learned and think deeper on specific subjects. Lead in questions like “Do you have any questions on the material” or “What do you disagree with” resulted in shallow answers and left no room for thoughtful reflection. There was also low class participation. If you ask questions about something covered- for example “Of the three methods I showed, which one would you use to increase traffic to your web site and why would that be the best technique for you?” That would help me stimulate my thought process forward. It would help me transition from the facts and start the process of decision making and practical application. Working with my mind and imagination feeds my passion and excitement. It also may get more students contributing to the discussion.

What did you like about the course?

How to take actual steps and begin setting up a website instead of just studying about what a good website should be like. I also want to add that an important advantage for me was the ability to take the class from my home. I had some medical problems that would have made me miss several classe sessions if they had been in a school. With the class on-line, I was able to view all the lessons.

What suggestions do you have?

Perhaps taking the website building a few steps further, and then giving more feedback on specific begginer's websites. I think less time could be spent on some of the introductory mind-map type of material in order to provide more time for going further with the actual website construction.

the most important benefit I got is the knowledge that I don't learn well without a contact with real people and structure of the real life class

Teacher calls each and every student for at least 15 minutes: 1)in the very beginning 2)in the middle 3)in the end of the class Technical/ hands on learning starts before you get completely bored with the theory, maybe even in the first lesson The homework assignments should be short but in every class and evaluated before the next class. If I was a person that doesn't need a structure and supervision I'd learn without a class like some of my friends.

The difference between a classroom and a course on the internet is the interaction with the teacher and their asking students questions to guide their process. In this case, it would probably be helpful if the teacher bagan each session with a set of questions the student should be conscious about while going through the lessons. This would sort of be like a teacher in a classroom launching the lesson so that students could discuss it on the forum later on, and the teacher can determine if they are on the right track or not. On questions 3 and 4, I would have selected a 3rd choice, such as "other," "sometimes", or something else with an explain window. Because I didn't have that choice, a yes or no didn't have value for me.

What did you like about the course?

All of the links and examples really helped. The real-life Assignment sheets were very great and definitely aided me with what I needed to do. There were so many things online that I didn't know about and even heard about with advertising, ads, and getting yourself known out there. I especially loved the web templates site which saved me over $500.00 paying web site designer, and that alone was worth the money spent on the class. The weeks went by really fast as I studied, took notes, and implemented what I learned from each course into my business. And if you're a author like me, this will help you as well. I didn't think that it would, being that I was just a writer, but marketing and selling your book is the same as any business. I quite enjoyed the class. I would highly recommend the course.

What suggestions do you have?

Some people in earlier posts mentioned that there were not enough discussions with classmates, but people receive what they put in, and there's not much you can do about other people's participation. I, for one, received a whole lot of information that will definitely help me out with my website and my business. And if you want to know HTML, the basics are covered here, yes, but more advance stuff you will need to find a cours elsewhere. I know some basic HTML to get around and update my website, so the information on that part was not as necessary for me; yet, even still, I learned a new command in the class. Every bit of information helps. :)

I enjoyed the actual hands on ways of starting the Web page. I also enjoyed the discussion groups.

Possibly having an Internet Business 2 where the Website creation is more step by step. This whole internet thing is overwhelming to me but I was real excited to do my Web page on google until I learned it was very primitive. Then I was lost. I couldn't search for a template I wanted because I didn't know I would need one. I am one of the many who don't have much money to do trial and error so more feed back on the Website part would be a great continuation of this class. I was sorry to see the last class. I will probably get too overwhelmed to continue without guidance. But I am glad Gary is available later as well. This course could improve a little on showing examples of the steps for the lessons. I did not follow the mind mapping at all after the first example so when lesson 10 wanted us to pull it out again, I didn't have one to pull out. I tried to create one but got lost and frustrated. I couldn't even think of questions to put on the discussion board to get answers I was so lost.

I noticed right away that all the discussions start with the same script. Majority of the answers were scripted as well. I didn't enjoy the fact that the classes are set up in exactly the same way, the cartoons, the scripted discussion starters, the lesson wording or little jokes at the top. It's fine for the first time people, but when you've taken classes before they get old and are no longer enjoyable.

Proofread and copy edit all lessons and assignment sheets. As the professor rightly commented in a lesson, language errors make you look sloppy.     My name is Welmer Lathon.  I'm a former student of Prof. Gary Fugere and am wondering if he is still teaching?

    Also, I would very much love to return to school, as my experiences with this school and its format for learning had a very positive effect on me. 

    In a nutshell, I enrolled in the "How to start/run an Online Business", with Prof. Fugere.  While I can't say that

    I'm generating a 6 figure income, I did start, run and sold an online business, (which by the way still has active contractsSmiley emoticon)  Yep. I actually took the class, developed a two through five year plan, build and ran the business and in the end sold a part of the business for a very lucrative salary and benefits package!  The class rocked! 

    The only thing I can suggest is that gsinet.org become Fully Acredited!  Please, go in this direction.  The school can certainly affiliate itself with the Milwaukee Public Schools and I'm sure here in Milwaukee, the Archdiocees of Milwaukee would be interested.  At the collage level, I would be particularly interested and proud to have gsinet.org affiliated with the Berklee Collage of Music, as I am an alumus of that school, also.

    I am aware that they offer classes in Web design for musicians/artist.  As that is just one aspect of e-Commerce, it would be easy for gsinet.org to develop a curiculum around the vision of Berklee Collage of

    Music.

    Most importantly, I wish to return to the school.  While there are several courses I would love to take, I only have enough money for one.  Would it be possible to network with Prof. Fugere as to a direction that would be inkeeping with the last course of study I took with him?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I enjoyed the actually working on a Web site such as links, shopping cart, PayPal. I enjoyed the discussion groups. That was helpful.

    More work on the actual Web site. I had trouble with a few things such as the shopping cart and I found it helpful to participate in the discussions. I would like to have seen other students work.

    What did you like about the course?

    I loved being able to learn at my own pace, ask questions any time and get answers not only from the instructor but other students as well. The links to relevant informations were great. The step-by-step assignments were just what I needed as a "newbie" to internet business.

    What suggestions do you have?

    I kept expecting the instructor to call a meeting in the conference center. It would have been nice to use that feature at least once though I don't know what the criteria for calling a conference should be. The course was great and I'm not saying that a conference would have made it any better.

    Being able to interact with someone who is really doing it in the real world. Gary's examples of his own successful Websites and sharing his insights to his failures along the way to becoming a successful Internet Entrepreneur was invaluable.

    Gary was very gracious with his time and spent considerable time with me and my partner in one on one phone consultations.

    I loved this class it was just what I was hoping it would be.

    In this evaluation: Q 1. This on-line course was very disappionting compared to the worst of other college courses, particularly face-to-face courses, I have taken. Q 2. I do not know how the course feels. I am very disappionted by the content. The course was very disappionting, I have no way of knowing if it was disappointed, pleased, or neutral. Q 4. I would not reccommend this course to anyone, friend, relative, acquaintance, or stranger, except as an example of what not to do, and how not to do it. Q 6. Professionalism. Gary needs to let students know of his qualifications - academic and real-world - and the significance of those qualifications. He needs to use data and statistical evidence to support his qualifications. Gary needs to answer all students' questions and respond substantively to all student postings and e-mails. Gary needs to adress all student concerns. Gary needs to use proper spelling and grammar, in all class materials, lessons and discussion board postings. Students need to have access to their own postings to edit (for spelling, grammatical and other errors), and change postings to reflect the ideas that had been poorly expressed or interpreted. Lessons need to be edited for proper grammar and spelling. Lack of proofreading and editing shows up in the lessons in How to Start an Internet Business, and that reflects very poorly on the writer(s), editor(s), and instructor(s). Gary needs to let the students ask relevant questions and answer them honestly and fully. The course was filled with self-congratulatory pap and self-serving platitudes, with very few really helpful ideas. I want double my money back, for the time I wasted on this course. Please post this in your feedback from former course participants as an alternative to the rah-rah mindlessness of so many of the other responses previously posted. Thank you. Now go proofread and edit the course materials for grammar, spelling, and syntax.

    1. Useful,applicable information included in each leasson, with emplasis on being practical and prepared. 2. Extensive supply of invaluable, topic related links 3. The instructors' use of audio/video presentations that bring online classes a traditional classroom feel and personality 5. The instructors' availability for Q and A.

    What suggestions do you have?

    The discussion board has been very flat lined throughout the course. It's got to be a challenge to get on line students to use the discussion board as it is intended, as a classroom, where participation is part of the learning experience. Gary gave us lots of opportunity to question and comment on lesson and supplemental material but a class discussion just never really took off. I don't know what the answer is to this lack of participation, except possibly requiring students to participate by having to answer some type of "Learning Objective" questions on a weekly basis.

    But how to do this without it being a contrived sort of busy work??

    I am taking away alot of valuable information from this course. I have carefully saved the lessons, assignments and most of the external links which I will continue to refer to and study towards my goals.

    The course went from finding a niche to marketing a site, and provided plenty of informative links all along the way.     The course touched on everything from generating ideas to marketing a site. There were links within the lessons to help understand certain points, links to expand on the lessons, and tons of informational links.     Taking a class online was very convenient for me. I have six kids and little free time. It was nice to know I could come and particitpate anytime. Even if it was at 3am.

    maybe it was this class or group of people but there was not much pertisapation from the students which lead to perhaps a lil disinterest by the instructor ..     The course was a real and practical educational experience for me. It educated me in the steps of creating a Web site, finding how it fits with the competition in the internet universe, how to market the site, and showed how to find the resources that are needed to start up an internet business.     What did you like about the course?

    The overall presentation was well presented. I actually set up an education/technology/educational games site at the community college where I teach on the WebCt platform. I presented it at a national conference of community college educators and received 3,000 in the two weeks after Igot home. Someone mentioned that I should set it up as an internet business but I really wasn't sure what they were talking about. After your course now I know. Your course helped me answer a lot of questions about how to go about it. Although this is not my primary interest I may still do it. Secondly, I liked the emphasis on not getting wrapped up in the peripheral issues like domain names and incorporating etc. and instead to go ahead with setting the business up. The presentation on mind mapping was also interesting. I liked how you showed how you used the concept to set up the class. I thought the lessons were well paced. I plan to take your "Teaching Online" course and look forward to it.

    What suggestions do you have?

    I would recommend that in the beginning people get a list of every link pertaining to their idea and to annotate the list. This will give them important background on what people are doing and maybe prevent them from duplicating others. It also can be the source of something valuable to put on their site. Showing how this is done in a word document with cut and paste would be worthwhile for some.

    The info provided is excellent. Good breakdown of subjects. Good about providing the nitty-gritty w/ links to more details, if people want it.

    The cost was very fair for all that's provided. The course description in the Renton Technical College catalog doesn't even come close to explaining what you do in this class- I suggest asking the school to include a link to your Website or something, so people can learn more about your class. I was initially hesitant to sign up b/c I wanted to make sure I'd get my money's worth. I feel like I got MORE than my money's worth- thanks!

    What suggestions do you have?

    Although I LOVE doing stuff online and that fits my schedule much better than an in-person class, I still like to underline and write things in margins. So I would suggest a print version that would come along w/ the class lesson/assignments. True, one could print everything here and the assignments are already in WORD, but w/ all the color graphics and the way the text is really spread out, it isn't very practical for printing.

    I didn't find using the discussion board very intuitive and I spend a lot of time on online message boards, too, so I think I'm pretty familiar w/ them generally. I can't pinpoint the problem, but the board was hard to use.

    The instructor was very prompt to answer any questions I had. It was also helpful to have the discussion board available to know if others were in similar situations regarding class work. The discussion board was also helpful in gaining insight from others in the class who may have had experience with specific software programs. I was glad to receive the last two lessons a couple weeks before the class ended. I was able to work on them without being in a rush to complete the lessons before the class ended. This also enbabled me to ask any questions regarding the material and get a response before I could no longer gain access to the discussion board.

    I am very upset as in the beginning I introduced myself and the concept I have for an internet business. The response I got was that the wedding business is ompetitive and it was very clear it was not a direction I should be heading.     I really needed to learn how to build a wab page and the instruction Gary was very precise and directed. To me, the cost of the class was worth this alone.

    I do wish that we could have had more audio and video displays. I think 1 per each class segment would be a great improvement. I really enjoyed hearing him speak, and sometimes through the nuances of speach and the voice inflections, things can be better understood than by the written word only. It's also comforting in that you feel you have more of a connection with your teacher and that you're not out there on your own. Gary is a very good teacher and I feel and it would be nice to see and hear more of him.

    Lessons are thorough, in-depth, and easy to understand, and contain plenty of useful advice for future reference. Currently I don't yet have a business idea, but I saved these lessons so that when I do, I can refer back to them. The interaction is great, and questions are answered thoroughly and precisely.

    What suggestions do you have?

    The later lessons are harder to follow if you don't already have a business idea that is ready to be pursued, and unfortunately it was for this reason that I couldn't really offer much input in the discussion forum.
