Course Description

Are the wheels starting to come off your emotions due to financial worries? Dealing with the fear of a layoff, or a sudden financial setback causes anxiety, stress, loss of sleep, lack of focus and concentration, and in extreme cases, even clinical depression. The human mind is capable of astounding accomplishments, when free of clutter and at peace. However, when the mind is preoccupied with financial fears and worries, your mental performance plummets. Fortunately, learning simple techniques can ease your suffering and help you cope. This class provides tools and insights into how to control and focus your thoughts to bring some normalcy to your life. Read lessons, participate in exercises, hold discussions with fellow students, plus receive personal coaching from the instructor. Runs for 6 weeks and is self-paced. Course Outline

Week One 
Tuesday, Lesson 1
The Psychology of Money ~ Psychologists agree that financial trauma is among the most difficult emotional challenges we face as humans. We are going to examine some of our beliefs and values about money.

Friday, Lesson 2
The Search for Certainty ~ Our quest for permanency is at the heart of all of our financial suffering. In this lesson we are going to look at whether that which we seek is even possible.

 

Week Two
Tuesday, Lesson 3
How the Mind Creates Thought and Emotion ~ Most of the time, it feels like our thoughts think us, rather than the other way around. Before we can make any progress toward understanding fear and worry, we need a fundamental understanding of how these processes work. 

Friday, Lesson 4
What is Fear ~ There are two types of fear, factually based fear and psychological fear. We are going to examine the psychological fear and examine how and why our thought system creates unhelpful fear.

 

Week Three
Tuesday, Lesson 5
Confronting Fear ~ We are going to examine how and why the fear system does what it does and then start looking at the tools to bring fear back into its natural, helpful role.

Friday, Lesson 6
What is Worry ~ Worry is the thinking component of fear. We are going to get clear on what is the difference between fear and worry and then help you establish simple techniques how to get in control of the thinking, thinking, thinking that leads to so much
unnecessary suffering.

 

Week Four  
Tuesday, Lesson 7
The Utter Insanity of Worry ~ Worry consists of complete fabrications of the human mind. We are going to look at some of the most extreme examples of self deception that one must in engage in to worry.

Friday, Lesson 8
Could We Be Bringing it Ourselves ~ Quantum physics is beginning to discover some laws of nature that in fact prove that there is something behind this Law of Attraction stuff. Here we are going to look at how you might be creating some of your own bad circumstances..

 

Week Five  
Tuesday, Lesson 9
Quieting the Mind ~ Self-talk, guilt and exaggeration have you running around doing things that are not only unnecessary, but taking you in exactly the opposite direction of where you want to go. It takes a quiet mind to know what is truly important.
 

Friday, Lesson 10
Managing credit cards and debt ~ Creeping debt and interest payments can sabotage even the most careful woman. We'll examine some simple strategies for helping you get out -- and stay out -- of debt.
 

 

Week Six  
Tuesday, Lesson 11
Financial Values and Beliefs ~ Do you really need to watch the Dow Jones averages everyday? Is you financial strategy part of the problem? Is your lifestyle out of whack, do we really need all that stuff?

Friday, Lesson 12
Continuing your financial journey ~ We'll go over investment clubs and how they serve to further your investment education, and lastly, criteria for choosing a financial planner.
