Read lessons, participate in exercises, and hold live interactive discussions with instructor Gary Fugere and fellow students in your on-line classroom. Runs for 6 weeks and is self-paced. Course Outline
Week One 
Tuesday, Lesson 1
Who are the telecommuters? ~ In this lesson, we put the world of telecommuting under the microscope and examine who the telecommuters are, where they work, what they do, and what makes the telecommuting merry-go-round work.

Friday, Lesson 2
What kind of options do we have? ~ In this lesson, we look at what kind of jobs are using telecommuting, which are most in demand and what the required skills needed for successfully landing a telecommuting job. Lastly, we are going to introduce you to mind mapping.

 

Week Two
Tuesday, Lesson 3
Making the package pretty ~ Cover letters, resumes, e-mailing, resume posting and creating a Web page of your own.
Friday, Lesson 4
Finding the jobs ~ This lesson is going to focus on actually finding the jobs.  We are going to look at the hidden market, telecommuting-friendly companies, search sites, classified ads, resume banks, and more.

 

Week Three
Tuesday, Lesson 5
The financial picture ~ We are going to look at how telecommuting compensation is calculated, and what kind of benefits you can expect. Then, we will explore the unique tax consequences of telecommuting and operating a home office.

Friday, Lesson 6
Can you make telecommuting work? ~ Here we're going to look at the family, lifestyles, temperament and self management needed to become a successful telecommuter.

 

Week Four  
Tuesday, Lesson 7
Is the house ready for telecommuting? ~ In this lesson, we look at issues such as finding a space to work, who pays for equipment, what equipment you'll need, and insurance issues.

Friday, Lesson 8
Your own backyard ~ The best shot at a telecommuting job is right where you are. In this lesson, we are going to explore approaching your boss with a telecommuting proposition.

 

Week Five  
Tuesday, Lesson 9
Avoiding Scams ~ There are literally hundreds of work at home schemes that you must look at to find a job. However, if you don't know how to spot the scams, you'll likely end up a victim.


Friday, Lesson 10
Instant telecommuting ~ Franchises are an excellent way of getting out of that corporate cubicle.  In this lesson, we examine what to look for and where to find it.

 

Week Six  
Tuesday, Lesson 11
Becoming an Independent Contractor ~ In this lesson, we are going to examine the world of the independent contractor and explore ways to work for multiple employers at once.

Friday, Lesson 12
Starting your own business ~ The ultimate telecommuters are those who own their own businesses. Here we are going to examine the ins and outs of becoming your own boss.
